This floor is getting interesting and maybe a little complicated. With a gym on the top of classrooms we have taken extraordinary measures to insulate the spaces below for sound. The thinking is that the sounds of basketballs bouncing and students jumping above a relatively quiet classroom would be a challenge. RIGHT? The assembly designed by our acoustical engineer adds a second floor of concrete that is spring loaded with 500 springs. The slab we pour today will be mostly covered by this second layer. The plan is to pour this critical final slab after the roof goes on to protect it from the elements.
